Frequently Asked Questions
When should I plan on being photographed for my Maternity session?
The best time to schedule your maternity photography session is between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, your belly has a beautiful, full & rounded shape while you are still comfortable enough to move and pose with ease. Booking early ensures availability, especially during busy seasons.
Does Alternate Angles provide maternity dresses or wardrobe options?
Yes, Alternate Angles offers a client closet with a wide selection of maternity gowns and dresses designed specifically for photography. These pieces are chosen to flatter your body, highlight your bump, and photograph beautifully. Most women bring 1-3 dresses that fit their body perfectly and speak to their individual style.
How long does a maternity photography session last?
Maternity sessions last between 1-2 hours, depending on whether you are including your partner and/or siblings. This allows time for multiple looks, up to 3 outfit changes, and a relaxed, enjoyable experience without feeling rushed.
Can my partner or children be included in the maternity session?
Absolutely. Including your partner and children is highly encouraged and helps tell the full story of your growing family. These images often become some of the most meaningful from your session.
What should I wear to my maternity photoshoot?
Flowy gowns, fitted dresses, and neutral tones tend to photograph best. When you book with Alternate Angles, you will have access to the client closet, along with guidance on styling to ensure a cohesive and flattering look for you and your family.
Do I need to bring anything to my session?
You will receive a how-to-prepare guide after holding your session slot that includes being sure to bring a variety of undergarment options. Additionally, you should arrive with your hair and makeup done. Finally, you may want to consider bringing a custom onesie or pair of shoes for your soon-to-arrive little one that can be incorporated in the session.
What if I feel awkward or nervous in front of the camera?
That is completely normal, and you are not alone. Every session is guided with gentle direction to help you feel comfortable and confident. The goal is to create natural, flattering poses that feel like you, not forced or overly posed.
Do you offer maternity and newborn photography packages?

We knew from the time we saw your work that Alternate Angles was the right choice. The quality of your work speaks for itself, but I never dared to dream of such beautiful pictures. I knew you were able to capture the essence of a moment but you captured the spirit of us and I am so appreciative. You allowed me to be really comfortable in my skin and in front of the camera, both for the first time.
