Bringing the Outdoors In: A Nature-Inspired Newborn Session at Boston based studio, Alternate Angles

One of the things I love most about running Alternate Angles, my Boston-based photography studio focused on newborns and babies, is the opportunity to collaborate with parents to create images that truly reflect their personalities and dreams. Every session is unique, and I always welcome the visions and special requests that make each family’s story come to life.

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful couple who are avid hikers and nature lovers. As they prepared to welcome their little one into the world, they designed a nursery filled with elements from the natural environment—lush greens, a stunning mural of the outdoors and mountains, and peaceful forest tones. When Mom mentioned her dream of having a newborn photo that captured her son's connection to the outdoors, I was all in.

Of course, Boston’s chilly winter weather had other plans. With freezing temperatures and unpredictable conditions, taking a newborn outdoors wasn’t an option. But that didn’t mean the vision had to be compromised. I decided to bring the outdoors in—and create something magical right here in the studio.

Using a beautifully detailed digital forest background and incorporating real ferns into the set, I crafted an image that felt like a serene woodland moment. The soft, natural greens and earthy tones highlighted the peacefulness of this sweet baby boy, and the result was a portrait that looked like he was nestled gently into the heart of nature. Mom was absolutely thrilled with how it turned out, and honestly—so was I.

This session reminded me once again how creativity and collaboration can make anything possible, even when the weather outside says otherwise.
