Let’s talk about one of my favorite sessions this summer—featuring none other than one-year-old Wesley from West Roxbury, MA. His family came to me with a mission: no boring, posed, cookie-cutter photos. They wanted something real, something fun, something that actually felt like them. And let me tell you, they brought it.
Now, before we dive into the cuteness overload, let’s set the scene. It was one of those brutally hot summer days—the kind where the air feels like soup and even your sunglasses are sweating. But did that stop this amazing family of four (plus their two dogs)? Not for a second. They showed up ready to laugh, play, and embrace the chaos—and that's exactly what makes magic happen in front of the lens.
We stayed right on the beautiful property surrounding the Alternate Angles Photography studio, which offers the perfect backdrop for natural, personality-filled family photos. The parents were all in—tossing the kids in the air, playing tag, laughing, tickling. Yes, even in the heat. That’s what makes the difference. Real images happen when families show up ready to be themselves.
Wesley and his big sibling (age four and full of energy) were total stars. And those two dogs? Photogenic pros. I somehow convinced them to sit (and stay!) long enough to snap the sweetest shot of them with Wesley—tails wagging, tongues out, the full family vibes.
We lasted a solid 45 minutes outdoors before we all felt like human puddles and retreated into the studio. But the fun didn’t stop there. Oh no. It was time for Wesley’s cake smash—and this wasn’t just any cake. His amazing mom whipped up a gorgeous gluten-free, sugar-free masterpiece, and it looked and photographed like a dream.
Here’s the twist: this wasn’t just Wesley vs. the cake. The entire family joined in. Think frosting on noses, giggles all around, and a joyful mess that only a true celebration of a baby’s first birthday can create. It was chaotic. It was hilarious. It was perfect.
Sessions like these are why I love what I do. They’re fun. They’re unpredictable. They’re packed with genuine connection and personality. And they result in a gallery that tells a real story—a story that families will treasure forever.
So Boston area families, if you're dreaming of a 1 year old portrait session that feels like you (and maybe includes your dogs too), let Wesley’s session be your inspiration. At Alternate Angles, we celebrate the messy, the silly, the wild, and the wonderful. Because real life? It’s way better than perfect.
