There’s something incredibly rewarding about bringing a vision to life—even when it means packing up your entire studio and recreating it in someone’s living room.
That’s exactly what happened for baby Kaiden’s session.
This sweet Boston family reached out to me wanting a newborn session that felt polished and timeless, but also personal and close to home. Baby Kaiden was already three weeks old—past the typical newborn window—but mom still wanted those cozy, posed images. And not just any images—she specifically requested a black and white color palette, which was such a unique and stunning choice. I absolutely loved this direction. Black and white imagery strips everything down to connection, texture, and light—and I was all in.
To make it all happen, I packed up my full studio setup—backdrops, professional lighting, props, and everything else needed to recreate the signature Alternate Angles look—right there in their home. Was the environment chaotic? A little. Did it show in the images? Not even close.
Despite the usual buzz of a newborn household (plus the added joy of visiting grandparents from Vietnam and an enthusiastic big sister who adored her baby brother), the session felt calm and intimate in all the right ways. There’s something special about photographing a family in their own space. It’s where their life is actually happening—and that energy adds something beautiful to the images.
Big sister was so proud and gentle with Kaiden, constantly sneaking in snuggles and kisses. She was the perfect little helper and gave us some of my favorite sibling shots ever. And having the grandparents present was the cherry on top. It’s rare to have extended family join newborn sessions, especially when they’ve traveled from across the world. Including them added such meaning and depth to the gallery—these are the kinds of moments that become treasured heirlooms.
Even though we weren’t in the studio, the images turned out exactly how I envisioned—professional, soft, and emotionally rich. That’s the beauty of knowing how to control light and space. By bringing my full setup, I was able to deliver the same quality my clients expect, with the added layer of storytelling that only comes from being in their actual home.
This session was a reminder that magic doesn’t always happen in a perfectly quiet studio. Sometimes it’s in the midst of real life—toddler giggles, grandparents chatting, a baby stretching in his sleep—that the most meaningful images are made.
Thank you to this beautiful family for trusting me to bring the studio to you. Baby Kaiden, you are so loved.
With heart,
Laura
