When it comes to planning your newborn photo session, one of the biggest decisions is choosing a color palette. As a professional newborn photographer at Alternate Angles Photography in Norwood, MA, I’ve guided Boston-area families through this decision for over 25 years. Whether you're drawn to soft neutrals or bold brights, each approach tells a different story—and both can be absolutely beautiful.
Creams, taupes, soft grays, and muted pastels have become the go-to choice for many families. Why? Neutral tones are timeless. They allow the focus to remain on your baby’s features—the flaky skin, fuzzy hair, tiny fingers. These colors create a calming, cozy vibe and often coordinate beautifully with home decor for wall art or albums. If you’re aiming for a minimalist or classic look, neutrals are your best friend.
On the other hand, bright or rich tones can add personality and a pop of joy to your images. Deep jewel tones, vibrant pinks, or sunny yellows can be playful and energetic, especially when paired with coordinating props or seasonal themes. Bold color can be especially fun when families want to showcase a cultural tradition, favorite team, or simply their love of color.
Here’s the truth: there’s no wrong answer. I always suggest working with the color tones of your home and/or nursery to choose a palette that will complement your space. Once you’ve decided on either brights or neutrals, try to stick with that overall vibe and choose a total of about three coordinating colors. This way, all your images will blend beautifully, making it easy to print, display, and enjoy them together as a cohesive set.
Whether you're dreaming of soft and serene or bold and joyful, we’ll create images that feel true to you—and capture your baby’s earliest days with warmth and style.
